Marney Copperfield ♦ Wolstrum Refugee ♦ Weaver ♦ 20
PERSONALITY: Marney is a good girl, through and through. She’s gentle, kind, and understanding. Her parents just raised her to be that way, and even when Ollie became her adopted brother, she always wanted him to like her. However, once her parents go missing after the windstorm hits Wolstrum, it’s like she changes completely. She feels abandoned, and she lashes out at nearly anyone who brings up the subject, even Oliver. It’s hard for her not to be bitter when it feels like everyone pities her, and lately she’s been considering leaving Wolstrum to be part of another tribe, just to leave all the pain behind.
BIO: When Ollie joined the Copperfield family, Marney was ecstatic. She had always wanted a big brother, and the scraggly haired boy made her laugh until her insides hurt. Being a young girl, she followed him everywhere. One night in particular, he took her to the lake to show her a big secret. Marney was so excited, she was shaking purely from the excitement and not from the cold. As a cruel prank, Ollie shoved her off the dock, not knowing that there was a net below the surface. Marney became entangled in the net, and she nearly drowned before Ollie finally dove in and saved her. It was the worst thing anyone had done to her, and she ran home crying. Eventually, the two reconciled, and even though Ollie had behaved himself, Marney always felt just a little scared around him. Now that their parents are gone, she both needs and resents him. He’s the constant reminder that the Copperfields are broken, and she’s caught in a turmoil over how to deal with her conflicting emotions. She spends her time weaving now more than ever, making clothes and ropes and nets just to keep her mind occupied.
Despite their rocky past, Oliver proved to be a positive influence in her life. He made her laugh and without him, she probably would’ve grown up to be uptight. After the disappearance of their parents, she’s cold towards him. He doesn’t seem to care about the fact that they’re gone, and she’s questioning whether she should consider him family at all.
Marney met Leah at the children’s orphanage, and the two hit it off instantly. They’re very close, and Marney trusts Leah with everything.
Marney always thought people were too hard on Smith. She quite liked his company once she got to know him, and Marney often asked him to help her with chores whenever she saw him being harassed. She considers Smith a good friend, and Marney would defend him in a heartbeat.
